Louise Arbour, Prosecutor for the International Tribunal for Rwanda welcomed with great satisfaction the transfer of four indicted persons who had been detained until now in a prison in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Prosecutor expressed her gratitude to the Cameroonian authorities and in particular Paul Biya. the President of the Cameroon, for his decisive support.in carrying out his State's responsibility in respect to the Prosecutor's indictments against Theoneste Bagosora, Ferdinand Nahimana, Andre Ntagerura and Anatole Nsengiyuma.

The four accused will be the first indictees to appear before the Internatioional Tribunal in Arusha who, during the 1994 genocide, were politically very influential or held positions of national authority. According to Arbour, their transfer to Arusha marks a capital turning point for the credibility of the International Tribunal and demonstrates the Tribunal's capability to prosecute the principal perpetrators of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
